Does Your Home Need a Dehumidifier?

We live in the desert here in Fontana, CA, which means we don’t usually think about excess humidity. But the Inland Empire has its share of muggy days, which can make your home feel like a sauna, and while your air conditioner can handle some of that, it’s not set up for such duties and can often struggle when there’s an excessive amount of moisture in the air. A whole-house dehumidifier can be the perfect solution, not only for restoring your home’s comfort levels, but for helping your air conditioner handle the load a little easier and lowering your monthly bills in the bargain. But how can you tell if your home needs a dehumidifier? Every household in the area is different, but you can usually spot a few signs that can clue you in.

Mold and Water Stains

If you’ve ever notice water stains on your ceiling or walls, it’s usually a sign of trouble. But what if there’s not direct cause of those stains, such as a leak in your plumbing or condensation dripping in from outside the home? Chances are you’re looking at an issue with excessive humidity in your home. The same thing can be said if you’re spotting mold or bacteria growing in your home, especially in dark corners such as in your basement or attic. You can clean them up, but unless the core problem is dealt with, they’ll only come back. A dehumidifier can provide a long-term solution to the problem.

Condensation on the Windows

Have you ever woken up and found condensation on the interior of your windows, similar to dew found on your car in the morning? That’s caused by an excess of humidity in your home. The moisture in the air condenses in the cool hours of the early morning to form that coating on your window.

If a dehumidifier sounds like a good fit for your home, call Avis Plumbing, Heating and Air today!
