Proper Care of Your Heating Unit

Winter is on its way, and while we’re not going to be seeing a snowstorm anytime soon here in Claremont, CA, that doesn’t mean you don’t need your heating system to work exactly as it should in order to keep your home warm on chilly nights. Proper care of your heating unit means getting a jump on any signs of trouble. The sooner you can spot a problem, the more quickly it can be addressed and the less it will likely cost you as a result.Ideally, you should schedule a maintenance session on your heating system before the cold weather really begins. It will improve the system’s efficiency and allow the technician to spot any potential repair issues before they get out of hand. If you haven’t had your heater serviced yet this fall, now is an excellent time to make that call.

Beyond that, there are several general symptoms of trouble that  you should look out for. If you spot them, turn your heater off and call for a repair service right away. They include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Reduced air flow coming out of your vents, which forces your system to work harder than it should. It can be caused by clogs in the system or issues such as a malfunctioning fan motor.
  • Cool air coming out of your vents, or air that isn’t as warm as you’d expect. This can be a problem with the burners or perhaps a breach in your air ducts.
  • Strange noises that you don’t normally associate with your system’s functions. The noises will likely stop or start when you turn your heater off and on.
  • Higher-than-expected monthly bills. A faulty component will likely reduce the system’s efficiency, causing it to raise your heating costs unexpectedly.

Call Avis Plumbing, Heating and Air for top-notch repair and maintenance service on your heater.
